Throughout the whole of the Middle Ages, as a consequence of the fights between Navarrese and Castilians, Laguardia repeatedly changed hands. In 1461, power passed definitively to Castile, and twenty-five years later Laguardia and its villages were incorporated into the Álava province and its brotherhoods.
